Reading dispose of Falkland and wait

9/5/2009

Having lost the toss the Falkland batters were not in the right mindset to deal with Jamie Hoddle who whipped out both openers in double quick time. Neil Saker had to get in on the act, after all he is the principal strike bowler!! Pope dropped anchor but Will Challoner realised that runs were needed, one of which brought his downfall. Other than a bright 40 from wicket keeper and former captain, Mark Foster, that was the meat of the Falkland batting 140 all out, in 47 overs

The early loss of Neil Saker made coach Mark Simmons ask, "how many overs have we got to get these runs?" 67 would have been the answer, but Simon Steel had no intention of batting that long. His 44 runs took 30 balls and contained 10 x 4's. He was suckered out by the experienced Neil Gunter, with most of the fielders easily by-passed Tom Heath stood on the midwicket boundary. and the short ball was hit straight to him, but low, and he completed an excellent catch.

Shelvin Gumbs, who had just hit a six, and followed it with two fours, was joined by Tom Fray. Tom has been short of batting lately so he decided to get in quick, his twenty two coming in only 12 balls with 4 x4's.

Now of course it's all wait for the outcome of the appeal!! If only Reading had ...... If only Reading hadn't....... It's awful waiting to see how another club fares to know your own future.

Will we be happy to accept promotion under those circumstances?
